Dr McGrath obtained his medical degree from the University of New South Wales in 2005. He has subsequently worked and trained in the Hunter New England health system for 9 years.
In 2015 he obtained his specialty credentials through the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He has a particular interest in sports injuries, Joint preservation and shoulder, elbow, and knee and hip arthroplasty.
He has completed an Australian fellowship in shoulder, elbow and knee reconstruction.
He has also returned from Vancouver, Canada, where he has completed a 12 month fellowship in Arthroscopic Sports Reconstruction and joint preservation surgery.
Dr McGrath is working on techniques for shorter hospital stays and more comfortable rehabilitation.
Dr McGrath is committed to teaching through his affiliation with the University of Newcastle and his public appointment at Maitland Base Hospital.
Dr McGrath currently works out of The Orthopaedic Clinic at the Juntion, and operates at Lingard Private, Maitland private, Maitland public, Warners Bay private and Lake Macquarie Private hospitals.
